charity : water

       charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Almost a billion people live without clean drinking water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause more deaths each year than all forms of violence, including war.
       Children are especially vulnerable to this -- their small bodies can’t handle the intense dehydration from diarrheal diseases. In developing countries, women and children usually collect the water for their families. They walk miles each day to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely to make them sick. Time spent walking keeps them from attending school, working or taking care of their families.
        But clean water changes everything. Safe drinking water alone can reduce water-related deaths by 21%. Water projects built near home can restore hours to someone’s day. Instead of walking for water, adults can use this time to work and children can use it to get an education. Families with enough clean water to drink, bathe, clean and grow their own food can become self-sufficient households, less affected by external conflict, famine or inadequate government services.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971. Today, MSF provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF also reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols. In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.

love trees

Love Trees has given trees to children in Zambia, Kenya, Malawi, Canada, the United States and Haiti by donating trees to kids through schools and children’s organizations. We also source the correct species for the region and ship trees at no cost to the schools, organizations, teachers and students. For international projects we partner with organizations with tree planting expertise on the ground in that country like: LOVE GROWS: Love Trees manages a global children’s educational tree planting program and is also a member of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Billion Tree Campaign. This year, the UN has launched the International Year of Forests and every Love Tree planted helps the UNEP reach a target goal of planting 12 billion trees worldwide. Love Trees works independently and partners with development organizations to provide trees and environmental education to school children in Africa, North America and Haiti so kids can have a Love Tree of their own to plant. When they plant their tree, either with their family at home or as part of a school or camp environmental project, they get to make a wish for the planet. They’re also learning that they have the power to help make the world a better place. In developing countries, a Love Tree is truly a “tree of life” as it can alleviate hunger, foster self-sufficiency, provide natural disaster tree relief, combat global warming and improve nearby soil, air and water.

healthy steps

Healthy-Steps has been used to improve the physical and emotional well-being of people living with a wide range of chronic illnesses and diseases. A children’s program, “Creative Rhythms” was also developed to address the special needs of children living with these illnesses. Healthy-Steps is a therapy, exercise, and movement program done to great music. Offering wellness programs for everyone, from young adults to seniors, regardless of health, age or ability level, the Healthy-Steps program improves overall wellness, range-of-motion, balance, strength and endurance, as well as emotional well-being and self-image.
